NSLC - International Diplomacy 2009

This summer I went on a 10 day trip to DC/New York where I attended a conference called the National Student Leadership Conference on International Diplomacy.

While in DC I spent the majority of my time at The American University.  It was a busy week, packed full of  lectures on the international community, international laws, and theories on war. I also …

  • visited the Colombian Residency at the Columbian Embassy
  • visited  the Saudi Arabian Embassy
  • attended speeches by Colin McCarthy, Robert Pruitt, UN representatives, and Ambassadors to Lichtenstein and Luxembourg
  • participated in a mock UN security council where we discussed the issue of nuclear non-proliferation in Iran
  • went through leadership rotations on public speaking, conflict resolution, and time management
  • visited many of the nation’s greatest monuments and the national mall

While in New York things were just as busy.  I also …

  • visited and toured the United Nations
  • ate lunch in the UN delegates dining room
  • listened to a guest speaker on refugees and displaced peoples
  • visited Times Square, Liberty Island, and Ellis Island

NSLC - International Diplomacy was a truly amazing experience. I was able learn and experience things that I never imagined.   I also met a lot of truly amazing people from across the nation and world. Over the next few days I will write a few blogs on my experiences at NSLC.
