Will you be able to find a job when you graduate?
The first question we ask college students is, “What is your major.” This question is akin to asking, “What are you going to be when you grow up?”
When I choose my major, one consideration is whether or not graduating with a certain major will prepare me for life after college. John Rossheim from Monster recently published The Top 10 Hardest Jobs to Fill. The article describes where demand from employers remains strong even in a depressed economy.
Suprisingly, IT jobs are in demand, even while US companies look for savings via offshore software development. According to Melanie Holmes, a vice president at Manpower North America, “One of the challenges that IT departments face is finding people who are well-rounded, can communicate with the lines of business and can manage.”
