Scream 4
Scream 4 is in the works. The original Scream is my favorite movie. When the sequel and the trilogy were originally released, I was excited!
However, like most horror movies, the second and third movies were disappointments. Now, almost 10 years after the third installment of Scream the producers have decided to make a 4th movie.
The original Scream was good because it was a parody of horror movie plots. Unlike Scary Movie, Scream was Wes Craven deprecating his own movies. Scream included 5 teenagers; all with teen angst, two with mommy issues, a geek, a popular girl, and one who is just too easily pressured by his peers.
Scream had realistic characters and a realistic setting. Unlike A Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween, and Friday the 13th the killer wasn’t supernatural. Everything that was done could have happened. A small town was been terrorized by a psycho killer named “Ghost Face” and the killer bought his costume at a Halloween store and stalked his victims on a cloned cell phone. It was all realistic and practical.
The movies that followed were all just about a copy cat killer trying to knock off the main characters and failing every time. The reasons why the 2nd and 3rd movies didn’t work was because they weren’t like the original one. The original scream had a good premise. The 2nd and 3rd movies were just about killing.
The original movie is almost always the best, everyone knows that. Trying to create a 4th movie after so many years is going to be hard and is unlikely to be a hit. The only way that this movie could be good is if new characters are introduced. This would give the saga a clean slate to work with.
I look forward to the release of the new Scream movie, but I do have many worries about whether I will be disapointed.

Ugh, I know. They’ve done the same thing with Halloween and Friday the 13th, though I must disagree with you on those movies. The first ones, similar to the first Scream movie, were realistic and frightening, which is what garnered its success and ability to make stupid sequels. I myself LOVE the first Halloween movie, starring Jamie Lee Curtis. Michael Meyers was human in that film, as was Jason in the first 13th movie.
I wouldn’t get your hopes up on this new remake. It’s being produced by the same creators of the recent Friday 13th and Halloween remakes, both of which were stupid and served a pure purpose of making money at the box office, not to entertain. Just bring your portable DVD player with the original Scream movie into the theatre. Just in case.
